National Sales Manager/Allmar Inc.

How many years have you been in the industry and can you share some of your past experiences?

I have been in the industry for 43 years.  My background includes experience with several major lock and security manufacturers, I have owned my own consulting and engineering businesses, and I am now back in the distribution end of the industry.  I am honoured to be one of few Distinguished Electrified Hardware Consultants (DEHC) in North America, granted by DHI in 2020.  My early experience as a locksmith led me to expand my knowledge by studying digital electronics.

How many years have you instructed for DHI Canada and which courses have you instructed?

I started instructing in 1992 and began teaching electrified hardware and access control.  Over 30 years later, I am still instructing and over the years I have taught Master Keying, COR 117, COR 133, EHC 400, EHC 420.  I also participated in the development of electrified hardware courses.  I served as Capital City Chapter President and I'm currently a member of DHI Canada's Board of Directors.

How has being an instructor contributed to your professional development and your career?

Instructing has helped me gain confidence and has furthered my knowledge about new products and concepts.

What impacts have you seen on students through their engagement in DHI Canada’s education?

Many of the students come away with a sense of achievement from their new found knowledge.

In your experience, what is the most important benefit of DHI Canada’s education program?

Product knowledge and life long friendships.

Personal story or memories you wish to share:

I do not know of any other industry that offers this kind of education and mentorship for its members. I really enjoy the fact that many competitors sit in the same room with a common goal to learn from very experienced instructors.

When I'm not "selling doorknobs", I love to play guitar and cook.
