DHI Canada Honours Our “Women In Construction” - Alisa Bissonnette

Feb 23, 2023 | Industry News

Alisa Bissonnette, AHC

Current Role

My typical responsibilities include shop drawing submittals and consulting, with a high interest and skill in Security/Automation Systems integration.  I also have the pleasure of supporting the team by providing technical support services, helping with solutions to site issues Project Managers face or assisting in coordination of more complicated projects that have a high level of security integration.

Number of years in the industry

It’s been 10 years since I started my career in the door and hardware industry.  My first introduction was in Door Automation and Access Control as an Installation Technician. It was through site integration meetings with an AHC that I worked a few projects with, that I grew curious about consulting and decided to pursue that career path.

Involvement with DHI Canada

I recently had the pleasure of giving back for all DHI has done for me, by assisting in sharing that passion and knowledge by instructing at the technical school this past year. I look forward to more similar opportunities in my future!

How the DHI Canada education program has supported your development

As an electronics & telecommunications technician by trade and wanting to learn how to design the doors assemblies as a whole unit, DHI was able to fill the gaps and help me grow in my new aspired direction. I had the technical knowledge on the electronics side, but without DHI I would have never considered all the finer details necessary for a working assembly. Hardware detailing and codes were the biggest help, training my mind to think to the finest detail about hardware and the why’s, has prevented me from making costly mistakes with procurement and on the install side.

What do you like best about the industry

That it is ever changing and developing. Doors are puzzles, and every one of them is unique with their own requirements. Whether that’s a design requirement, operational, electrical or automated, each one requires a high level of attention. This keeps it interesting and challenging!

Fun Fact

I don’t have a fun fact to share really… at least not about myself LOL.  My life revolves around work… it’s my passion, and I spend most of my free time doing something work related… whether its learning about new products or trying to find more efficient ways of task performance and day to day execution. Online learning about random topics on LinkedIn is a new interest and using Microsoft developer functions to automate a lot of my work has become my newest obsession.  I do not have kids but I do have an adorable little Chihuahua.  I live alone and I recently moved to Montreal in a beautiful little studio/condo with lots of charm as it’s an historical building.  I do have random interests outside of work.  I took my Yoga Teacher Training, I play the piano at a concert level (well I did, practice is of the essence to maintain such a thing), I can juggle (great party trick if I had a social life), I write poetry and am actually pretty good.
