Passed away peacefully on Jan 26, 2018 at the age of 93 in Markham, ON

Doug began his lengthy career in the architectural openings industry when he started working at Aikenhead’s Hardware in Toronto in the early 1950’s.

In the mid 1970’s he formed a partnership to launch Summerhill Hardware Ltd. In mid-town Toronto. Doug was also a partner in SHL Hardware which was involved with wholesale cabinet and furniture hardware distribution and Hewi Canada that was importing architectural hardware and accessories from Germany.

Doug was an original AHC, receiving his credentials from the Society of Architectural Hardware Consultants in 1954. With a passion for quality and detail, Doug consulted for many notable architects on a multitude of high-end commercial projects in Toronto and other regions of Ontario as well as some export projects.

Teaching students for more than 20 years at DHI schools in Chicago, Houston and Geneva Park, ON, Doug was recognized for his efforts with numerous awards and in 1985 he was formally acknowledged with his Distinguished Status.

In his retirement years, Doug enjoyed family time with grandchildren, travel with his beloved wife Jean and he also developed great skills for intricate bird carving. Being an avid tennis player and taking meticulous care of his gardens and swimming pool rounded out his retirement years.
