Door and frame specifications require as much attention to detail as other specification sections. Fire-rated openings (both neutral and positive pressure tested) require particular attention to construction, labeling requirements, reinforcements, hardware preparations, glazing, and frame anchors. These specifications must be carefully coordinated with other specifications to ensure that the proper materials are provided. This course teaches you how to write clear, concise, correct, and complete door and frame specifications using the Construction Specifications Institute’s MasterFormat™ as a guide.
You will learn how to:
- Organize your specifications
- Use correct specification language
- Coordinate work in other sections
- Address product substitutions
Recommended Prior Courses:
- COR147 – Introduction to Specification Writing
- COR123 – Using Door, Frame and Hardware Standards
Student to provide the following reference materials:
- Catalogs or electronic files for standard and custom hollow metal doors and frames, architectural flush and stile and rail wood doors, and aluminum doors and frames.

- Classes run daily Monday to Wednesday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Registration Fee Policies
- Member fee applies to all DHI individual members or any employee of a corporate member.
- Registration fee includes tuition, course material, continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments.
- A $200 administration fee will be applied to cancellations received until March 10, 2023; no refunds after this date. Substitutions are permitted at any time.
Multiple Registration Discount

- This class might be cancelled if there are fewer than 5 students registered.
