Duties

Door Hardware and Lock Systems Management - 60%

• Design, develop, and maintain master-keying systems.
• Maintain, renew and evolve associated standards and guidelines for door hardware and master-keying systems for implementation across the entire University portfolio of buildings.
• Monitor door hardware systems to assess appropriate life and level of maintenance to ensure best value for hardware used in our buildings.
• Provides technical support to operations staff to resolve complex operational issues.
• Sources replacement components, and manages product updates and enhancements that are above the general availability for locksmith staff.
• Arranges and administers service contracts for vendors and their system components.
• Produces, edits and maintains as-built system documentation, user manuals, and operating procedures.
• Identity and resolve advanced application and code related errors.
Policy, Planning, Design and Analysis -15%
• Analyzes and resolves all emergent issues relating to policy, planning and design.
• Applies unique and intuitive knowledge of many proprietary systems (hardware and software), gained either through experience or training by the system manufacturer.
• Completes cost/benefit analysis.
• Prepares and administers construction and maintenance contracts.
• Presents proposals to users and supervisors.
• Represents the Engineering & Operations unit at consultant and contractor meetings.
• Creates technical reports and specifications.
• Interprets Alberta Building and Alberta Safety Codes.Preferred Qualifications
• 5+ years of practical related industry experience.
• Certified Journeyperson Locksmith (in Alberta) would be considered an asset.
•Working knowledge of institutional or commercial electronic locking systems and door hardware.
• Familiarity with computer systems as well as CAD applications.
• Strong verbal communications and a courteous manner in dealing with stakeholders/customers.
• Ability to work independently on a wide range of projects and equipment.
